“The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.” Acts 5:41
Hey friends 👋
We’re continuing through Acts, so open your Bible and study along with me. 📖
Last week, Peter boldly proclaimed the gospel and declared,
“We must obey God rather than human beings!”
Rather than repenting
the religious leaders became furious.
Verses 33–39
When the members of the Sanhedrin heard Peter’s words,
they were furious and wanted to put the apostles to death 😠
Gamaliel, a respected Pharisee and teacher of the law
stood up and addressed the council.
He reminded them of past movements that eventually faded away.
Then he gave this warning:
“For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.” (vv. 38–39) ⚖️
Whether he realized it or not,
Gamaliel spoke an incredible truth!
Nothing can stop the work of God! 🙌
Verses 40–42
The apostles were flogged,
ordered not to speak in the name of Jesus,
and then released.
Most people would have left discouraged...
“The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name.” (v. 41) ❤️
Their suffering reminded them that they belonged to Christ!
So what did they do next?
“Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.” (v. 42) 📣
The apostles understood something we need to remember today.
Jesus is worthy!
Worthy of our worship!
Worthy of our obedience!
Worthy of our lives!
May our greatest joy not be found in comfort or approval,
but in faithfully following the One who is worthy of it all ✝️
