Faithful in Every Calling 🙌

“So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.” Acts 6:7

The early church was growing rapidly, but with growth came new challenges.

Let’s see how the apostles responded!

Verses 1–7 🤝

As the number of disciples increased, a complaint arose because some widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. (v. 1–2)

Rather than ignoring the problem, the apostles called the believers together and said,

“It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.” (v. 2)

They instructed the church to choose “seven men… full of the Spirit and wisdom” (v. 3) to serve, while the apostles devoted themselves to “prayer and to the ministry of the word.” (v. 4)

Everyone had a role.

Everyone had a purpose.

And when the church served faithfully together…

“So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly…” (v. 7) 📈

Verses 8–15 ✨

Stephen, “a man full of God’s grace and power,” (v. 8)

performed great wonders and signs among the people.

Opposition quickly followed.

His accusers “could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.” (v. 10)

Unable to silence the truth, they brought false charges against him and had him arrested. (vv. 11–14)

Yet even in the face of accusation…

“All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.” (v. 15) 😇

The world may oppose the gospel

but it cannot overcome the power of God

working through faithful servants!

Whether our calling is to preach

to serve

or to stand for the truth

every act of faithfulness points people to Christ!

May our lives be marked by the same Spirit-filled faithfulness so that Jesus alone receives the glory ✝️
