“Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up.” Exodus 3:1-2
Often the Biblical events are criticized by skeptics for having little or no evidence to support their claims. One of those events includes the foundational story of the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt centuries before the coming of Christ. Even though you may not realize it, this story has MASSIVE historical significance to our own salvation as Christians living in a contemporary world. The exodus, for example, symbolizes our own salvation from sin as believers in Jesus. If you’ve ever been convicted of your own inadequacy in light of God’s perfect standard, you understand the need for your own rescue from bondage “through the waters” of baptism. In other words, this ancient account of our spiritual ancestors was a picture of our own redemption experienced many years later. In addition, these events REALLY HAPPENED and we know that because Jesus and the other Biblical authors seem to take them at face value AND as historical events. So I’m here to tell you today that this is exactly what these stories are! They really did happen and you can trust the Bible! One significant find of recent years is that of the real Mount Sinai in northwest Saudi Arabia. While many skeptics and so-called-believers have doubted the truth of the exodus story because other suggested sites that don’t seem to match the Biblical account, the real location has been discovered that aligns with ancient accounts of its location (in Arabia south of Jerusalem) and that seems to match the every intricacy of the Bible’s narrative, including: the parting of the Red Sea, the bitter waters at Marah, the oasis of Elim, Elijah’ cave, an ancient sacrificial alter, the alter of the golden calf, the split rock that produced water and a peak blackened from the presence of God described in the Bible. The site also contains many ancient Hebrew glyphs and writings! It’s called Jabal Maqula. You can also search social media for pictures and videos of this incredible discovery. The bottom line is to not take my word for it. Check it out for yourself. You can trust Jesus for your salvation because you can trust the Bible in its account of history. Believe it and rest in the work God did to bring about your salvation today!
