😱 What is Calvinism?? 🧐

“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of Christ.” Romans 10:17

How on earth are y’all doin’ friends?! Today’s message is SO special I’m breaking out my FAKE southern accent in writing! So, in light of that, I’d like to ask you this question: Have you ever heard of Calvinism? If so, what do you know or think 🤔 about it?

A lot of people associate that word with the Biblical idea of “predestination” but there’s a little more to it than that ….

What many people don’t realize is that the whole topic goes a little deeper than the topic of predestination. And as far as Calvinists go, there’s another important theological question they seek to answer: “Where does FAITH come from?”

Have you ever thought about that before? We all know that we are saved by faith and that faith is not a work. Yet, if you’re like me, you realize you didn’t just WAKE UP one day and “decide” to follow Jesus … my apologies to the old hymn writer 🤪

Calvinism answers this question by saying “regeneration (or being born again) PRECEDES faith.” For example, if you look at the verse we began with, you see that two things produce faith: 1) Gospel proclamation (the Word of Christ in the context of Romans 10) and a new spiritual nature (“hearing” the Gospel internally). From this concept, flow all five points of Calvinism, including the idea that you can’t lose your salvation!
