âYou created my inmost being; you knit me together in my motherâs womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.â Psalm 139:13-14
Friends, Christians and church leaders, Iâve got a special message for you today that you donât want to miss. In fact, Iâm not only asking you to WATCH this weekâs video âAbortion: What the Bible and Church History Have to Say âŚâ (linked below đ) but also to SHARE it. In addition, VOTE â for life in the ballot box this week. If youâre in Ohio, that means voting âNOâ on Issue 1 which seeks to pave the way for unrestricted abortions and other anti-family values in our state.
Historically Christians have ALWAYS opposed abortion and valued life from conception. Did you know that? On this topic, Reformer John Calvin once remarked, âIf it seems more horrible to kill a man in his own house than in a field, because a manâs house is his place of most secure refuge, it ought surely to be deemed mor atrocious to destroy a fetus in the womb.â
In addition to a multitude of Scripture verses saying the same, similar quotes are also echoed unanimously throughout church history which stood in sharp contrast to the culture of DEATH â ď¸ espoused by the pre-Christian pagan world. I donât know if you realize it, but the reputation of Christians being pro-life goes all the way back to the Roman Empire when our spiritual ancestors would rescue unwanted babies left out to die from exposure.
Yes, we even started the first orphanages because of our convictions like this command from the Didache (and restated in the Epistle of Barnabas), one of the earliest Christian writings outside of the New Testament: âYou shall love your neighbor more than your own life. You shall not abort a child nor again commit infanticide.â
Friend, being pro-life isnât just in the Bible, itâs in our BLOOD, that is, if weâve truly been redeemed by his. So make sure to take the Holy Spirit into your voting booth this week and to maintain a pro-life posture about yourself in your community every day! đ
