God Created Ex Nihilo

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." Genesis 1:1

I’m not sure if you’ve ever thought about this before but the God of the Bible created everything LITERALLY from nothing. In Latin the phrase is ex nihilo meaning "from nothing." At first glance you might say something like, “No duh.” However, we’re not just talking about the physical universe here. We’re also talking about time, space and the laws of physics like gravity, relativity and thermodynamics. This simple truth contradicts the belief system of atheists who think that the material universe could have come about naturalistically and then evolved slowly and uniformly over time into the world of life forms we know today. In other words, one could say that the universe came into existence with a bang several billion years ago, but where did the matter come from that created that bang. It is at this point that an atheist’s argument contradicts itself. Matter can’t come from non matter. An effect can’t happen without a cause and something can’t come from nothing. We might also ask, “How did the laws that govern our universe come to be?” Many nonbelievers wrongly believe in the principle of uniformity, thinking that these scientific laws have always been there but this doesn’t make any sense either. Instead, the book of Genesis tells us that, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” In this mindset, literally everything makes sense. God was the original cause. He took the initiative to bring the world into being, And he also took the initiative to pave the way for our salvation, dying on the cross for our sins and defeating death three days later. He did all of that for you and for me. Trust in his creative work and in his finished work of redemption by giving your life to him today!

Application:

Do you find it amazing that God created the universe from literally nothing?

Why do you think some people don't believe in God even though science can't explain the origins of things like the existence of the universe, the laws of physics, time, life and matter?

Explain one way God's creation of everything gives you a sense of humility and can make you a better person?
