āWe must obey God rather than human beings!ā
Acts 5:29
Hey friends š
Weāre continuing through Acts, so open your Bible and study along with me š
After being miraculously freed from prison, the apostles didnāt run or hide. They obeyed the Lordās command and, āAt daybreak they entered the temple courts⦠and began to teach the people.ā š
Verses 21ā28
The Sanhedrin gathered, expecting the apostles to still be behind bars.
Instead, the officers returned saying,
āWe found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside.ā š
Then another report came: āLook! The men you put in jail are standing in the temple courts teaching the people.ā
Even after a miraculous escape, the apostles didnāt disappear
they went right back to proclaiming Christ!
Godās mission could not be stopped šŖ
When they were brought before the council again, the high priest said,
āWe gave you strict orders not to teach in this nameā¦
Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching.ā āļø
Verses 29ā32
Peter answered with one of the boldest declarations in all of Scripture:
āWe must obey God rather than human beings!ā š„
This wasnāt rebellion
it was faithful obedience!
When manās commands conflicted with Godās command
the apostles chose to honor the Lord.
Peter then proclaimed the gospel: āThe God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the deadāwhom you killed by hanging him on a cross. God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.ā ā¤ļø
He finished by saying,
āWe are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.ā šļø
The apostles werenāt driven by fear or public opinion.
They were driven by their love for Christ and the truth of the gospel!
The same choice faces us today!
When the opinions of the world conflict with the truth of Godās Word
our response should be marked by humility, courage, and faithful obedience.
May we boldly live out Peterās words:
āWe must obey God rather than human beings!ā āļø
