When God Says Go 👣

“Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.” Acts 8:35

Philip had been preaching in Samaria when

God suddenly called him somewhere unexpected.

And one act of obedience led to one life hearing about Jesus.

Verses 26–29

An angel of the Lord told Philip, “Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” (v. 26)

Philip wasn’t told why.

He was simply told to go.

“So he started out.” (v. 27) 👣

Along the road was an Ethiopian official who had gone to Jerusalem to worship and was returning home reading Isaiah. (vv. 27–28)

The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.” (v. 29)

Verses 30–35

Philip ran to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah.

“Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked. (v. 30)

The man replied, “How can I, unless someone explains it to me?” (v. 31)

He invited Philip to sit with him and asked who Isaiah was speaking about.

Then Philip took the opportunity God had placed before him:

“Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.” (v. 35) ✝️

Verses 36–40

As they traveled, they came to some water.

The official asked, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?” (v. 36) 💧

They went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

When they came out, the Spirit took Philip away, and the man “went on his way rejoicing.” (v. 39) 🙌

Philip continued traveling from town to town, preaching the gospel. (v. 40)

Philip didn’t know what awaited him on that desert road.

He simply obeyed.

God had already prepared the opportunity!

Sometimes sharing Jesus begins with something as simple as being willing to go where God leads and speak when He gives us the opportunity!

May we live ready to obey, ready to speak, and ready to point someone to Jesus 👣
