“God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death!”
Acts 2:24
Hey friends 👋
We’re continuing through Acts — so grab your Bible and study along with me 📖
Peter is still preaching at Pentecost 🔥
The crowd has just heard about the outpouring of the Spirit, and now Peter turns their attention directly to Jesus.
Verse 22: “Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs …”
Peter reminds them that Jesus’ ministry was public 👀
The miracles weren’t hidden.
The signs weren’t done in secret.
They had seen the evidence.
Then Peter says something powerful in verse 23:
“This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge.” ✝️
The cross was not an accident.
Not a failure.
Not history spinning out of control.
God already knew.
God already planned.
Yet Peter also says:
“You, with the help of wicked men, put him to death!” 😱
Human responsibility still mattered.
Acts holds both truths together:
God was sovereign 👑
And people were accountable.
Then comes the turning point.
Verse 24: “But God raised him from the dead!” 🔥
Death could not hold Jesus.
The grave had no final authority.
Peter then points back to Scripture again 📜
In verses 25–28, he quotes Psalm 16:8–11, written by David roughly 1,000 years earlier ⏳
“I saw the Lord always before me…”
“You will not abandon me to the realm of the dead…”
Peter is showing them that even David pointed forward to the resurrection of Christ.
This is important:
The resurrection was not a new idea.
It was woven into God’s plan long before Jesus walked the earth.
And because Jesus rose hope is no longer buried ✨
Sin is defeated.
Death is overcome.
And salvation is now proclaimed openly.
This week’s passage reminds us that God is not reacting to history — He rules over it 👑
The cross was planned.
The resurrection was promised.
And Jesus is alive 💪
Even when people meant evil, God was still accomplishing redemption!
And the same God who fulfilled His promises then … is still faithful now 📖✨
